Nigerian singer Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, popularly known as Iyanya, has reminded fans that behind the fame and spotlight, celebrities are human beings who experience deep emotional struggles like everyone else.
In a heartfelt post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, the Your Waist crooner reflected on the pressures of fame and the often-overlooked humanity of public figures.
“We need to understand that celebs are humans with deep feelings and struggles like everyone else,” he wrote.
Iyanya described fame as a “double-edged sword,” noting that while it brings visibility and admiration, it also exposes celebrities to scrutiny and unrealistic expectations.
“Beyond the media glamorisation of their lives and personalities is a human simply asking and wishing and yearning to be human like the rest of us. It is a double-edged sword,” he added.
The singer also touched on how societal norms can make it harder for male celebrities to cope with emotional setbacks.
“For male celebrities, perhaps there may be an even deeper level of struggle to come back up when one has hit a low — because men are wired to be stoic, not show vulnerability, not ask for help or they’d be considered weak,” he said.
Iyanya’s message has resonated with many fans and fellow artists, sparking renewed discussions around mental health, emotional wellness, and the importance of empathy — especially toward those constantly in the public eye.
His comments serve as a reminder that celebrities, despite their success and fame, also battle with personal challenges and deserve compassion and understanding.
