Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has ordered the recall of students from the College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega, who were suspended after a riot in 2024 that led to the closure of the school.

The Provost of the college, Hussaini Aliyu, made this known during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.

Aliyu said the governor also approved N60 million for the accreditation of eight academic programmes by the National Board for Technical Education. He explained that the lack of accreditation was one of the main reasons behind the students’ unrest.

He said, “The students suspended on October 17, 2024, will be recalled after the ongoing accreditation exercise is completed.”

The provost added that the governor also approved the renovation of student hostels to meet accreditation standards and improve the learning environment.

According to him, the college management, the governing council, and the Ministry for Higher Education are all working together to achieve the governor’s vision for educational reform in the state.

Aliyu said that once accreditation is secured, about 250 affected students will graduate with National Diplomas instead of the Ordinary Diplomas previously issued by the institution, which had been one of the major demands during the protest.
