Singer Adekunle Gold has said he intentionally hid the featured artists on his newly released sixth studio album, Fuji.
Speaking in an interview on Cool FM, the Afrobeats star explained that he wanted fans to enjoy the music as a full experience rather than skipping tracks to hear their favourite artistes.
“I hid the features on my album intentionally because I want people to enjoy the music. I miss the days when the only thing that mattered was the music, not the featured artist on a song. I didn’t want people to skip any song after finding out who’s featured on it,” he said.
Adekunle Gold said the decision was also a way to remind listeners of the value of pure music.
He said, “I feel like we’re so spoiled now that we don’t even understand how to enjoy music anymore. When I made my first album, I had only one feature, and it was still one of my greatest works. I needed to go back to simpler times when what mattered was the sound, not who’s on it.”
The singer said he wanted fans to experience the album as a journey, not a playlist of features.
“That’s why I said, listen to it from top to bottom. That’s the only way normal people should listen to music. Why would you skip just because there’s a feature? It makes no sense. I’m intentional about how I make my music, so I hid the features for people to enjoy it,” he said.
Fuji, which marks another creative phase for the singer, features Davido, Simi, and other top acts, though their names were not revealed until after the release.
