Four of Nigeria’s leading football administrators have been appointed to key standing committees of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association.
President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, joined the FIFA Men’s Club Competitions Committee, which oversees the structure and governance of global club tournaments. Gusau succeeded Amaju Pinnick as NFF President in October 2022.
Also appointed is Aisha Falode, who now serves on the FIFA Media and Communications Committee. A respected voice in sports journalism and women’s football, Falode was formerly Chairperson of the Nigeria Women’s Football League and a member of CAF’s Media and Communications Committee.
Ilorin-born Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Abdulhakeem Mustapha, has been named to the FIFA Anti-Racism and Anti-Discrimination Committee. Mustapha, a top sports lawyer, previously served as President of the CAF Appeals Committee from 2018 to 2023 and chaired the NFF Elections Committee in 2010.
Former NFF President Amaju Pinnick was reappointed as Deputy Chair of the FIFA Men’s National Teams Competitions Committee, working alongside Paraguay’s Robert Harrison in supervising FIFA’s men’s national team tournaments.
Reacting to the appointments, Pinnick congratulated the new appointees, describing their selection as a reflection of Nigeria’s “strategic relevance and intellectual capital” in international football.
“President Gusau’s unifying leadership, Mustapha’s integrity, and Falode’s trailblazing legacy in sports media and women’s football represent the best of Nigerian excellence,” Pinnick said.
