Four people narrowly escaped death on Friday morning after a tipper truck collided with a diesel-laden tanker at Igbariam Junction along the Onitsha–Awka–Enugu Expressway in Anambra State.

The crash, which happened at about 9:50 a.m., caused the tanker to fall into a roadside drainage, spilling part of its diesel content.

In a statement released on Friday, the Sector Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra, Margaret Onabe, confirmed the incident on behalf of the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno.

She said the vehicles involved were a wine-coloured Mack tipper truck and a red HOWO tanker with registration number KWR 133 YQ.

According to her, the crash was caused by loss of control by the tipper driver.

Onabe explained, “A serious road traffic crash occurred on October 3, 2025, at about 9:50 a.m. near Igbariam Junction on the Awka–Onitsha road. The incident involved two vehicles: a wine-coloured Mack tipper and a red HOWO tanker with registration number KWR 133 YQ. Four persons were involved, with one sustaining injuries. He has been taken to hospital, and no deaths were recorded. The crash was caused by loss of control by the tipper driver.”

She further confirmed that the injured victim, a male adult, was taken to Chira Hospital in Awkuzu for treatment.

Officials of the FRSC later moved to the scene to manage traffic and prevent further hazards, while arrangements were made to clear the wreckage.

The Corps advised motorists to always maintain safe speed and drive with caution, stressing that speeding and loss of control remain leading causes of accidents on Nigerian highways.
