The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested a notorious armed robbery gang linked to the murder of Abuja celebrity, Bashir Dauda, popularly known as DJ Bash.
The Command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Monday. She said the breakthrough came after a series of coordinated operations carried out between September 3 and 19.
According to Adeh, the suspects are Ibrahim Shaibu, also called Baba Godes, from Zaria, Kaduna State; Yusuf Salihu from Kagini, FCT; Awulu Nuhu, also called Zabi, from Keita LGA, Katsina State; and Usman Yerima, also called Dangrugru, from Jimeta LGA, Adamawa State.
She explained that the suspects confessed to their involvement in several violent crimes, including the armed robbery of Umar Y. Gowa at Hillside Estate, Dawaki, and the attack on Volcano Peak Court Hotel, Gwarinpa, where DJ Bash was shot dead in 2024.
“The suspects confessed to their involvement in several violent crimes, including the armed robbery of Umar Y. Gowa at Hillside Estate, Dawaki, and the attack on Volcano Peak Court Hotel, Gwarinpa, where guests were robbed and Bashir Dauda, popularly known as DJ Bash, was fatally shot,” Adeh said.
She added that investigations revealed the gang had been terrorizing residents of Gwarinpa and Dawaki through violent attacks. CCTV footage also captured one of their operations, further exposing their activities.
“The suspects also provided useful information on other gang members currently at large. Efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing members of the syndicate,” Adeh added.
