The South-East leadership of the African Democratic Congress has established a Disciplinary Committee to address the internal crisis currently affecting its Abia State chapter.

In a press statement signed by the party’s Zonal Publicity Secretary, Chilos Godsent, the party disclosed that its Abia chapter has been grappling with divergent interests triggered by the ongoing coalition process, which is poised to alter the leadership structure within the state.

According to the statement, the Abia chapter has experienced a significant influx of coalition partners, leading to a surge in party membership. While this development is viewed as a potential strength that could enhance collaboration among members, it has also given rise to internal disputes.

Godsent explained that to tackle the growing tension and maintain party unity, the South-East zonal leadership held an emergency meeting in Owerri, Imo State. The session was chaired by the ADC National Vice Chairman (Southeast), Sir Bon Unachukwu.

He reaffirmed the zonal leadership’s commitment to restoring peace and cohesion in the Abia chapter, with a view to keeping the party’s progress on track.

“Accordingly, a three-man Investigative and Disciplinary Committee was constituted to handle the matter. The committee comprises Dr. Uche Edeh, Chairman, Barr. Anyanwu Chioma Joy, Secretary, and Chilos Godsent, member,” the statement read.

The spokesperson noted that the committee’s core responsibilities include engaging major leaders and stakeholders, interacting with various factions, reviewing petitions and relevant documents, and ultimately presenting recommendations for a peaceful resolution.

The committee is expected to complete its assignment and submit a report within 14 days of its inauguration, in line with the provisions of the ADC constitution.
