Six men have been arrested in Lagos for vandalising a government barricade at Obalende Roundabout, one of the state’s busiest traffic points.

Those arrested were identified as Matthew Yohana, 19; Jinadu Aliyu, 33; Yohanna Adamu, 29; Ayuba James, 25; Umoru John, 19; and Yakubu Ali, 25.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the arrests in a statement on X. He said, “All arrested individuals will be prosecuted in line with the relevant extant law of the state. We will not allow criminality or lawlessness to undermine public safety or the environment in Lagos State.”

Wahab also shared a video showing one of the suspects at the scene.

This latest arrest comes after several crackdowns across the city where authorities have targeted vandalism and other illegal activities. Earlier this year, youths were arrested in Ojota and Ikeja for damaging traffic signs and blocking roads.

Officials said the state is stepping up efforts to protect public infrastructure and ensure safety, especially at key junctions and commercial centres.

The government urged residents to support law enforcement by reporting cases of vandalism. Wahab added, “We are determined to uphold the rule of law and ensure that Lagos remains safe and conducive for all residents and visitors.”
