The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a 60-year-old man, Ajayi Femi, over the alleged rape of a 24-year-old woman whom he reportedly drugged before committing the act.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin. According to him, the case was initially reported by the survivor’s sister on August 22 and subsequently transferred to the Gender Unit of the Command for further investigation.

“Findings revealed that the suspect laced the survivor’s drink, rendering her unconscious before having unlawful sexual intercourse with her without her consent,” Hundeyin stated.

He explained that medical examinations conducted by the Gender Unit confirmed the survivor’s account, adding that the suspect confessed during interrogation. “The suspect also gave a confessional statement. He has since been charged in court and remanded in prison custody pending the next adjournment date,” he said.

Reacting to the incident, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice for survivors of sexual violence.

“We remain committed to tackling all forms of sexual and gender-based violence. Survivors are encouraged to report such cases promptly at the Family Support Units across divisions and area commands for swift justice,” Jimoh assured.
