The Social Democratic Party in Zamfara State has expressed concerns over the activities of an impostor, Bilal Aliyu, who is allegedly presenting himself as the state chairman of the party.

The party raised this alarm during a press conference held on Friday evening at their state headquarters in Gusau, the capital city of Zamfara.

Alhaji Idris Abdullahi Bangaje, the officially recognized state chairman of the SDP, emphasized that the party has firmly established itself in Zamfara.

He clarified that the state’s SDP chapter is duly recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies, and the Inter-Party Advisory Council.

Bangaje further highlighted that the current state executives were elected through congresses held at the ward, local government, and state levels. He pointed out the issue with Bilal Aliyu, stating, “We discovered an impostor, Bilal Aliyu, parading himself as state chairman. He is not our card-carrying member, and we don’t know him at any level. We urge security agencies to arrest him.”

The SDP chairman reiterated his position as the legitimate leader of the party in Zamfara, stating that he will continue in office until 2026 when new executives are expected to be elected.

“I have all the documents confirming me as the state SDP chairman, recognized by INEC, the Police, the DSS, and IPAC. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has come to stay in Zamfara, and we welcome more members,” he added.

In support of Bangaje’s claims, Hon. Ashiru Suleiman Gidan Tsika, the SDP chairman of Zurmi Local Government Area, spoke on behalf of the 14 local government chairmen of the party. He affirmed that Idris Abdullahi Bangaje remains the legitimate chairman of the SDP in Zamfara State.
