A video of police officers counting bundles of cash inside a patrol van caused public outrage, prompting the Delta State Police Command to act swiftly.

Four officers featured in the video have now been arrested and are facing internal disciplinary measures.

Delta State police spokesperson Bright Edafe confirmed holding the officers in a brief statement on Tuesday. “The policemen in the embarrassing video have been identified and arrested. They appeared before the Commissioner of Police today,” he said.

Edafe further explained, “Two of the officers are senior rankings and have been queried. The two inspectors are detained and awaiting an orderly room trial.”

The footage, which quickly spread across social media, showed officers engaging in behavior many Nigerians found unprofessional and unbecoming of law enforcement.

Prior to the arrests, Edafe assured the public that the command would conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate actions. He reiterated that the police force would hold its members accountable for misconduct that damages trust.

The arrest of these officers sends a clear signal that the Delta State Police Command is committed to upholding discipline and restoring public confidence.
