Nigerian Consul General in Cameroon Taofik Coker dies at 58

The Nigerian Consul General in the Republic of Cameroon, Taofik Coker, has passed away.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Coker died on Saturday, August 16, after a brief illness.

His death was officially announced in a statement released by the ministry on Thursday.

“Ambassador Coker was a hardworking and dedicated career diplomat who served Nigeria with distinction, commitment and professionalism in different capacities. His untimely death, therefore, is a great loss to the diplomatic community and the nation at large,” the statement read.

Mr. Coker was appointed as Consul General in Buea, Cameroon, by President Bola Tinubu in April 2024 and assumed the position in May of the same year. His tenure lasted just over a year before his passing.

Before his appointment to Cameroon, Mr. Coker had served at Nigerian missions in Conakry, Guinea, and Shanghai, China. The Ministry noted that he had an extensive diplomatic career and was known for his dedication and professionalism.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended its condolences to his family, colleagues, and friends, and prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.
