The Nigerian Official Selection Committee has begun accepting films to represent the country in the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards.

A statement from the committee on Monday said submissions will open from August 13 to September 12, 2025, through the official NOSC portal.

“To be eligible, films must be feature-length, produced outside the United States, with at least 50 per cent of dialogue in a language other than English. Nigerian Pidgin English is acceptable,” the statement read. “Films must also include accurate English subtitles and meet AMPAS-approved technical specifications.”

The committee added that the chosen film will represent Nigeria at the Oscars ceremony on March 15, 2026, in Los Angeles. The event will be broadcast live to more than 200 territories.

The NOSC is the only body recognised by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to pick Nigeria’s official entry for the category.

Filmmakers are also required to ensure their works were shown in cinemas for at least seven straight days between December 1, 2024, and October 31, 2025.

Nigeria’s last entry was the Hausa-language epic “Mai Martaba,” selected in October 2024 for the 97th Academy Awards. The film, however, did not make the final nomination list.
