The Nigeria Police Force has cautioned its officers against lobbying the Inspector-General of Police or the Police Service Commission for special promotions.
Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, gave the warning in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, saying the trend is being fueled by misleading media reports following the recent approval of accelerated promotions for some officers.
He said, “The recent exercise does not signify the commencement of a general or indiscriminate special promotion scheme.”
Adejobi explained that the promoted officers were selected based on clear guidelines and had demonstrated “outstanding performance, uncommon bravery, professional excellence, and commitment to duty.”
According to him, the promotions were not arbitrary, but part of a structured reward system set up by the leadership of the force to motivate exceptional personnel.
He said the police leadership was aware of false reports, allegedly pushed by a particular online platform, claiming that promotions were being handed out without proper standards.
“The Police authority also cautions personnel and members of the public to disregard such falsehoods,” the statement added.
Adejobi stressed that the force remains committed to fairness and professionalism and urged all officers to follow the right procedures.
