A 44-year-old man, Wasiu Akinwande, popularly known as Olori Esho, has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre by an Ikeja Magistrate Court over allegations of multiple murders across several parts of Lagos State.
The court, sitting in Ogba on Tuesday, ordered that he be kept in custody for 30 days pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.
Olori Esho was brought before Chief Magistrate Mobolaji Tanimola on an 11-count charge bordering on conspiracy, murder, attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms, being a member of an unlawful society, possession of a poisonous dagger, grievous bodily harm, threat to life, and unlawful possession of other weapons.
The police prosecuting counsel, Nosa Uhumwangho, told the court that the offences were committed between December 9, 2010, and April 5, 2025, at different locations in Mushin, Idi-Araba, Surulere, and Fadeyi.
Uhumwangho alleged that Esho was involved in the killing of Yusuf Bolakale, aged 30, and Yusuf Ramadan, aged 23, while in possession of an AK-47 rifle at No. 11 Mosalashi Street, Mushin. He reportedly fled to Alagbado after the incident, where he was later arrested.
The prosecutor also claimed that on December 9, 2010, the defendant fatally shot a 10-year-old girl, Aminat Lateef, who was running an errand at Tiamiyu Street, Fadeyi.
Esho was further accused of killing six more people on July 31, 2024, during a violent clash between rival cult groups at Idi-Araba. The victims included Anyila, Ojajo, and four others whose full identities are yet to be confirmed.
He also allegedly caused permanent injury to a woman during one of the attacks.
Olori Esho pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The case has been adjourned as police investigations continue.
