President Bola Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

Adeniyi, whose current term was to end in August 2025, will now remain in office until August 2026.

The news was shared in a statement released on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to Onanuga, the decision was made so that Adeniyi can continue his work on important projects and reforms already started under Tinubu’s administration.

“These include the modernisation of the Customs Service, the National Single Window Project, and Nigeria’s commitments under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA),” the statement said.

The presidency also praised Adeniyi’s leadership and dedication to duty.

“President Tinubu recognises Mr. Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service,” Onanuga said.

“The President is confident that this extension will further strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service in achieving its strategic mandate of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.”

Adeniyi first stepped into the role in an acting capacity after the exit of former CG Hameed Ali in June 2023. His appointment was confirmed in October 2023.
