Veteran musician and activist, Charly Boy, has urged Nigerians to focus on the upcoming 2027 general elections rather than become distracted by controversies such as the renaming of a bus stop in his honour.
The popular Charly Boy Bus Stop in Gbagada, Lagos, was recently renamed “Olamide Baddo Bus Stop” in recognition of award-winning rapper and music executive, Olamide Adedeji.
Responding during an interview on Channels Television, Charly Boy expressed little concern over the name change, stating that such matters were trivial compared to the more urgent national issues.
He emphasised that what truly matters is the contribution individuals make to their communities, noting that he had supported several groups in Gbagada over the years, including military pensioners, commercial motorcycle riders, and students through scholarships.
“My sister, if you ask me nah who I go ask? I don’t know why they do the things they do, because it seems to be a little petty. A lot more petty because those are not the things we should be talking about right now.
“Those are not priorities. Whether you name it Charly Boy or Olamide Baddo, or whatever, it’s neither here nor there. It doesn’t matter. Anybody who has done something for their community can take the shine. It doesn’t really matter to me,” he said.
Charly Boy then redirected attention to the 2027 elections, questioning the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral system and urging citizens to engage critically in shaping the country’s future.
“The 2027 general election is what we should be worrying about. Let’s face what is facing us, 2027 election, how e go be? Will our votes count?” he asked.
