Popular Hausa singer, Hamisu Breaker, and TikTok influencer, Abubakar Ibrahim, also known as G.fresh, have been sentenced to five months in prison by a Federal High Court sitting in Kano for abusing the Naira.

The duo was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, before Justice Sale Musa Shuaibu, on separate charges of spraying money at public events.

Both pleaded guilty to the charges and were each given the option to pay a fine of ₦200,000 instead of serving jail time.

EFCC said Hamisu Breaker sprayed ₦200 notes worth about ₦30,000 during a party in Hadejia, Jigawa State.

In a similar case, G.fresh was caught spraying bundles of ₦1,000 notes at a shop opening ceremony in the Tarauni area of Kano State.

An EFCC spokesperson said, “They were arraigned on a one-count charge each for tampering with the Nigerian currency, and both pleaded guilty.”

Justice Shuaibu said the action of spraying the Naira in public was a clear violation of the Central Bank Act.

He ruled, “They are sentenced to five months imprisonment or a fine of ₦200,000 each.”

Reacting after the ruling, an EFCC official added, “The Commission will continue to enforce laws that protect the Naira and educate the public on proper handling of the currency.”
