Another petroleum tanker carrying 45,000 litres of petrol crashed on Monday at Alagbayun area, Odo-Oba in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

The tanker, with registration number BAU 586ZE, was said to have swerved across the road with its content spilling out.

Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident when contacted on Tuesday.

Akinwande explained that the accident was caused by a mechanical fault from the engine compartment.

He said, “On getting to the scene of the accident, we met a Howo trailer tanker loaded with 45,000 litres of petrol that swerved across the road with content gushing out.

“Immediately, we swung into action by blanketing the area with foam chemical compound to neutralise the flammability of the content and prevent any imminent fire from surrounding.”

He added that the truck has been cleared from the road and that normal vehicular movement has resumed.

No life was lost in the incident.

This is the latest in a string of petrol tanker accidents recently recorded in Oyo State. A few days ago, another tanker carrying petrol reportedly exploded in the state.
