The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Aboki Danjuma, has directed all tactical police teams in the state to stop using unmarked vehicles, including mini-buses and tricycles (Keke), for patrol duties.
The announcement was made on Tuesday through a statement by the spokesperson of the Imo Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye.
According to the statement, the directive follows widespread complaints from the public about the misuse of tricycles and unregistered vehicles by certain tactical officers.
“This action follows numerous complaints of harassment, intimidation, and extortion by some tactical officers operating in unapproved vehicles while on routine patrols,” the statement read.
“The CP described the act as grossly unprofessional and warned that any team found violating this directive will face immediate sanctions. Commanders of such teams will be vicariously held liable.”
The police command emphasized its commitment to maintaining professionalism, accountability, and adherence to ethical standards in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.
“All units are directed to comply strictly, and members of the public are encouraged to report any violations,” DSP Okoye added.
