Prominent socio-political activist and co-convener of the #BringBackOurGirls movement, Aisha Yesufu, has openly criticized the leadership structure of the newly adopted African Democratic Congress coalition, citing a lack of inclusivity.
Yesufu, a known supporter of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, expressed her concerns on Wednesday via her verified 𝕏 handle, stating that the coalition’s leadership remains male-dominated and does not adequately represent women and youths.
“Dear Coalition (ADC), women leader and youth leader positions cannot be what is reserved for women and youth,” she wrote.
“You see this table full of older generation men cannot be the only ones allowed to make the decision as we go on! Women and youth must be in the midst of decision-making and not as afterthought in the form of tokenism.”
Well-known for her firm positions on governance and civic responsibility, Yesufu called on Nigerian women and young people to move beyond passive roles and get directly involved in party politics.
“Dear women and youth, this is the time for the numbers. You have to be heard loud and clear. JOIN!” she added.
