President Bola Tinubu on Thursday held a closed-door meeting with key political figures from Rivers State in an effort to resolve the ongoing political crisis in the oil-rich state.
The meeting at the Presidential Villa brought together Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker Martins Amaewhule, and other assembly members.
This marked the first public appearance of Governor Fubara with President Tinubu since March 18, when the president declared a state of emergency in Rivers State.
At that time, Tinubu had suspended the governor, his deputy Mrs. Ngozi Odu, and the state House of Assembly, citing their inability to work together and growing security concerns in the state.
The atmosphere after Thursday’s meeting appeared positive, with official photographs showing the president, governor, and minister smiling together, suggesting a potential breakthrough in reconciliation efforts.
According to Vanguard, presidency sources indicated the meeting helped bridge differences between the factions involved in the dispute that has significantly impacted governance in Rivers State.
The closed-door discussions focused on finding lasting solutions to the political impasse that has paralyzed administrative functions in one of Nigeria’s most economically important states. While specific details of the agreements reached remain undisclosed, the visible camaraderie among the leaders after the meeting points to progress in resolving the crisis.
