Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has revealed that President Bola Tinubu “never really liked” him, despite both being key figures in the ruling All Progressives Congress.
El-Rufai made the disclosure during an appearance on Prime Time, a current affairs programme aired on Arise Television on Monday.
He explained that his political allegiance within the APC was clearly aligned with former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Bola Tinubu never really liked me, but we never really got along. In the party, I was Buhari’s boy,” he said.
He also noted a close personal and political relationship with APC founding father and former Osun State Governor, Bisi Akande.
“The person I got along with was Baba Akande,” El-Rufai added.
In the same interview, El-Rufai expressed doubts about the likelihood of a new political coalition receiving recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission under the current chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
Drawing a contrast with former INEC Chairman Prof. Attahiru Jega—under whose leadership the APC was registered—El-Rufai said he doesn’t believe the present commission would allow a similar registration today.
