The Labour Party has condemned the killing of over 100 people in Benue State and is calling for a full investigation and urgent military deployment to protect affected communities in the North Central region.
In a statement released on Monday, the party’s National Caretaker Committee, led by Senator Nenadi Usman, described the incident as another wave of “senseless killings.” She said both the federal and state governments must take responsibility and act quickly to stop further bloodshed.
“These victims were not just statistics. They were human beings—innocent lives violently cut short,” Usman said.
She described how women, children, displaced people, and even security personnel were among those killed. Homes were destroyed, and entire communities were left in fear.
“Children who deserved protection were butchered. Mothers who should be nurturing families were buried in mass graves. Fathers defending their homes were mercilessly slain,” she added.
Senator Usman blamed the situation on a failure of leadership. She said the repeated attacks, including the burning of homes and targeting of displaced persons, show that many Nigerians are no longer safe in their own country.
“The bloodshed in Benue should shake every conscience in this country. This is not just a local tragedy—it is a national shame,” she said.
She added that the attackers now act with boldness, while innocent citizens are left helpless.
The Labour Party is calling not only for military action but also for urgent help to the survivors. It said food, shelter, medical treatment, and trauma support should be made available to those affected.
“To the grieving families, I mourn with you as a mother. To the children now orphaned, the women widowed, and the shattered communities—you are not alone. Your pain echoes across this nation. Your cry for justice will not go unheard,” Senator Usman said.
She also warned that Nigerians must not keep quiet when such attacks happen, saying that silence and delay in action only give more strength to those behind the violence.
The party promised to keep speaking out and pushing for policies that will protect all Nigerians, especially those in rural areas where such attacks are common.
“Nigeria cannot continue like this. Enough is enough,” Usman concluded.
