The Katsina State Police Command has stopped a kidnapping attempt in Malumfashi Local Government Area and killed one of the attackers.

The police also rescued five victims who were shot and injured during the incident. The victims are now receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Malumfashi.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, said the attack happened on Thursday, May 22, around 10:15pm. Bandits had stormed Unguwar Lado and Karo villages in Malumfashi.

“Officers from Malumfashi Division quickly responded after receiving a distress call,” DSP Sadiq said in a statement on Saturday. “They engaged the bandits in a gunfight and killed one of them, identified as Audu Kushin from Tsamiyar Maigoro village.”

He added that five kidnapped victims were shot by the bandits during the attack but were rescued and taken to the hospital for treatment.

The police are still searching for the other bandits who escaped.

DSP Sadiq said the operation shows the command’s strong efforts to fight kidnapping and banditry in the state.

The Commissioner of Police in Katsina, CP Bello Shehu, praised the officers for their bravery and urged them to keep up the good work.

He also called on the public to continue sharing helpful information with the police to stop crime in the state.
