A woman has been arrested by the police in Kaduna State for allegedly killing her co-wife’s three-month-old baby boy with acid.
The suspect, Zaliha Shuaibu, is from Malari Village in Soba Local Government Area. She was accused of carrying out the evil act inside the house she shared with her co-wife, Maryam Ibrahim.
According to the police, Maryam had stepped out briefly to use the toilet, leaving her baby alone in the room. When she came back, she met Zaliha holding the child. Foam was coming out of the baby’s mouth, and he had a wound on his neck.
The baby was rushed to a nearby hospital, but the doctor confirmed he was already dead.
The Kaduna State Police Command said Zaliha was arrested right after the incident. During questioning, she confessed that she poisoned the baby with acid.
The police also revealed that Zaliha claimed she did not act alone. She said she worked with Lawal Muhammad, the husband’s younger brother, who gave her the acid she used.
Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, confirmed the arrest and said the investigation is ongoing. He promised that justice would be served.
He said, “The suspect confessed to the crime and also named her accomplice. We want to assure members of the public that this wicked act will not go unpunished. All those involved will be made to face the full wrath of the law.”
