The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has released the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, but has held back the results of 39,834 candidates over suspected exam malpractice.

The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, announced this on Friday during a press briefing at the board’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja.

According to Oloyede, over 1.9 million candidates sat for this year’s UTME, with 71,705 absent, while 2,157 candidates experienced issues with fingerprint matching during registration.

He explained, “A total of 39,834 results remain unreleased. Of these, 1,426 results are under further checks, while 96 results were held over confirmed exam misconduct. This is lower than the 123 cases we recorded last year.”

He also stated that 80 persons are currently being investigated for their involvement in various examination-related offences. Anambra State recorded the highest number of suspects.

The Registrar revealed new tricks used to cheat during the exam, including identity fraud, using combined thumbprints, impersonation, and registering with different details at different centres.

“Some candidates were helped by CBT centres to register with extra fingerprints, planning to cheat during the exam. We caught 3,656 such cases and withheld their results. Many of the involved CBT centres will face sanctions,” he said.

Some of the affected centres include:

  • Tigh Technologies Limited, Abuja
  • Sascon International School, Maitama, Abuja
  • Wudil Computer Information Technology, Kano State
  • Penta M & Centre 2, Sokoto

He also mentioned 244 candidates who subscribed to WhatsApp groups promising leaked questions. Their results have also been held.

“The entire syndicates behind these runs and centres involved will be punished,” Oloyede added.

On the issue of underage candidates, the Registrar said the Federal Ministry of Education now enforces a minimum age of 16 for university admission. However, an exception was made for “exceptionally gifted” students.

Out of 41,027 underage candidates, only 467 met the high-performance mark, and one was disqualified for malpractice.

Speaking on candidates with disabilities, he said 501 candidates were successfully examined across 11 centres under the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG), though sadly, one was caught in impersonation.

Prof. Oloyede also announced that four CBT centres were blacklisted for poor performance and technical issues.

They are:

  • Adventure Associate, Kano
  • Saadatu Rimi College of Education, Zaria
  • Soronara Ventures, Imo State
  • HSS Amazing, Ogun State
  • He said their names and the reasons for blacklisting would be published soon.

Despite the issues, Oloyede described the 2025 UTME as “one of the most successful in recent years.”

“We remain committed to fighting all forms of cheating. We will keep improving our processes to ensure fairness and integrity,” he said.

To check 2025 UTME result candidates should send “UTMERESULT” as a text message to 55019 or 66019 using the phone number they used for registration. Printing of results will be available later.
