Nigerian music star Shallipopi has publicly criticized the organisers of the Headies Awards after he was not given a physical plaque for the category he won at the just-concluded ceremony.
Recall that the 17th edition of the Headies Awards took place on Sunday at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos.
Shallipopi emerged winner in the ‘Best Rap Single’ category for his hit track Cast, beating notable contenders including Odumodublvck, Magnito, Jeriq, and Ladipoe.
However, the celebration took a disappointing turn when the artist stepped on stage to accept his award, only to receive a handshake instead of a plaque.
Reports later revealed that the organisers had run out of award plaques during the ceremony.
Expressing his displeasure on X (formerly Twitter), Shallipopi didn’t hold back his frustration, vowing to boycott future editions of the event.
“Mtchewww. The next one if una see me make I bend,” he wrote.
In a subsequent post, he distanced himself from the award altogether, suggesting it be handed to someone else more fitting for the category.
“I nor go even lie for una sef, I nor want that award. Give the real rappers wey dey the category, me Shallipopi I nor be rapper,” he added.
