Lecturers at Kaduna State University have resumed an indefinite strike over unpaid salaries, allowances, and other unmet agreements with the state government.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Kaduna State University branch, announced the strike on Thursday, April 24, 2025, after getting approval from the national body.

Chairman of the union, Dr Peter Adamu, and Secretary, Dr Peter Waziri, said in a statement that the decision followed the Kaduna State Government’s failure to keep promises made in previous agreements.

“The strike became necessary due to a breach of trust and the state government’s failure to fulfil its commitments,” the statement read.

The lecturers are demanding payment of salaries owed from May to September 2022, as well as unpaid Earned Academic Allowances dating back to 2016. They also want promotion arrears and allowances for supervising the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme.

Other complaints include non-payment of benefits to families of deceased members, unremitted pension deductions from 2009 to 2019, and the non-implementation of the 25% and 35% wage awards announced for academic workers.

The union also accused the state government of interfering in the university’s autonomy, which they say is against the rules that govern Nigerian public universities.

ASUU-KASU said the strike will continue until all their demands are met by the state government.
