FG set to evacuate 200 Nigerians from Canada

A Nigerian man who was stranded in France has won his battle with the Nigerian embassy after his video pleading for help went viral on social media.

The man found himself helpless after his international passport and personal belongings were stolen. When he reached out to the Nigerian embassy for assistance, he was turned away due to the Eid-El Fitr public holiday. With no other option, he took to social media to share his frustration, explaining his struggles and asking for intervention.

His video quickly spread online, drawing widespread attention from Nigerians and influential figures. As pressure mounted, the Nigerian embassy was forced to take action.

In a swift turnaround, the embassy finally assisted him, resolving his issues and ensuring his safe return home.

His case highlights a growing concern about Nigerians stranded abroad. Recently, several viral videos have shown Nigerians in distressing situations in different countries, including those stuck in detention camps and prisons. Many of them have called for urgent help from the Nigerian government.

In response, the federal government has intensified efforts to bring stranded citizens back home. The National Security Adviser is leading a Multi-Agency Task Force, including the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), to coordinate evacuations and offer assistance.

Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols at NIDCOM, acknowledged the concerns raised by these videos. However, he cautioned Nigerians against sharing outdated or misleading footage, assuring that the government is actively working on the issue through citizen diplomacy.

Despite these efforts, the government continues to warn against irregular migration and consular violations, emphasizing that they come with serious consequences.
