Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has assured that justice will be served following the killing of travellers in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area.

He confirmed that 14 suspects have been arrested and are being moved to Abuja for further interrogation.

The victims, who were hunters traveling from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to Kano State for Sallah celebrations, were attacked and killed by a mob last Thursday. The incident has sparked nationwide outrage, leading to a swift response from security agencies and government officials.

During a condolence visit to Deputy Senate President Barau I. Jibrin in Abuja on Monday, Okpebholo strongly condemned the attack, describing it as “unfortunate and unacceptable.”

He said, “So far, they have arrested 14 suspects. They are being moved to Abuja for interrogation. We have also set up a committee to support the families of the deceased.”

Senator Barau commended the quick action taken by security agencies and urged that those responsible must be punished.

“This barbaric act must not go unpunished,” he said. “Justice must prevail to maintain peace and unity in our nation.”

Governor Okpebholo is also expected to meet with the Kano State governor to discuss further steps in handling the tragedy.

Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been briefed on the matter and has reportedly expressed strong concern over the incident.

With the public closely watching the case, many are expecting law enforcement agencies to carry out a thorough investigation and bring those involved to justice.
