The South-West zone of the National Association of University Students has called on the Federal Government to reverse the recent hike in telecommunication tariffs, warning of possible mass mobilisation if their demands are not met.
At a press conference held in Lagos, the student body also raised concerns over insecurity on campuses, poor power supply, and frequent strikes, urging the government to take immediate action.
In a statement signed by the NAUS National Vice President (South-West), Tiamiyu Olayinka, the association stressed that the telecom tariff hike was negatively affecting students’ academic activities.
“Students across campuses depend on affordable internet access to attend virtual lectures, conduct research, submit assignments, and participate in online discussions,” the statement read.
“By increasing telecom tariffs, these critical academic engagements are being disrupted. We call on relevant authorities to act swiftly and responsibly to address pressing concerns.”
The association warned that if the government and stakeholders failed to take action, students across the South-West would be mobilised for mass protests to defend their rights and demand a better academic environment.
