The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company has restored power to the Logistics Command of the Nigerian Air Force in Ikeja, Lagos, weeks after it was disconnected over a disputed N4.3 billion electricity bill.

The blackout had led to a confrontation last week when some Air Force personnel reportedly stormed the corporate headquarters and Oshodi Business Unit of Ikeja DISCO, protesting the power cut and causing disruptions.

Despite the bill remaining unpaid, power was restored on Wednesday after prepaid meters were installed at the Air Force Base.

A source at Ikeja DISCO confirmed the development, saying, “We have installed a prepaid meter, just like we did at the Army cantonment. Now, they will only use the electricity they pay for. We had suggested this before to reduce the debt, but it wasn’t accepted at the time.”

The source explained that while the debt issue is still unresolved, steps are being taken to address it at the federal level. “As an arm of the Federal Government, the matter of payment may not be handled here in Lagos but in Abuja. For now, the immediate problem of restoring electricity has been solved,” the source added.

A representative from the Air Force Base also confirmed that the meters had been installed and were working. “The prepaid meter was installed on Wednesday, and there is now electricity at the Base,” the source said.

On the recent invasion of Ikeja DISCO offices, the source stated, “Investigation into the incident is still ongoing. The Nigerian Air Force is a professional body and will handle the situation appropriately.”
