The Bayelsa State Government has lifted the long-standing ban on employment into the state civil service, paving the way for new recruitments.

A special announcement issued on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary of the Civil Service Commission, Dr. Stanley Sokari, directed interested applicants to submit their applications to the commission no later than March 21, 2025.

Applicants are required to address their letters to the Chairman of the Bayelsa State Civil Service Commission, stating their desired position, age, sex, hometown, local government area, qualifications, professional certifications, and work experience.

The embargo on recruitment had been in place since the administration of former Governor Seriake Dickson, following the employment of 1,000 graduates.

Officially, the decision was linked to concerns over the state’s rising wage bill, though reports suggested instances of secret employment during the period.

Announcing the development, the government stated: “His Excellency, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has graciously approved the employment of suitably qualified indigenes of Bayelsa State into the Bayelsa State Civil Service.”
