Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the recruitment of 1,000 secondary school teachers to strengthen the state’s education sector.

According to a statement released on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, the approval followed the completion of the recruitment process by the Teaching Service Commission.

The statement also revealed that the governor is finalizing plans to employ an additional 1,000 teachers for primary schools across the state.

It would be recalled that TESCOM screened thousands of applicants last year as part of efforts to address the shortage of teachers in the state’s public schools.

With the final list for secondary school teachers now approved, successful candidates are expected to commence their documentation immediately.

“The governor had earlier approved the recruitment of 1,010 secondary school and 1,000 primary school teachers last year, which kickstarted the recruitment exercise by TESCOM and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB),” the statement read.

“While the final list of successful candidates for secondary schools has now been approved, that of primary school teachers is in its final stages.”

Governor Aiyedatiwa has reportedly expressed concern over the shortage of teachers, especially in rural areas, and has directed that recruitment be based on the specific needs of understaffed schools across the state.

In a related development, the governor recently approved ₦633 million for the registration of students sitting for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

Additionally, he has given the nod for the upgrade and conversion of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, into the University of Agriculture and Agribusiness, Owo, as part of broader plans to improve tertiary education in the state.
