Panic and fear gripped students of the College of Nursing Sciences, Asaba, after a gang of armed robbers stormed their off-campus hostel on Thursday night, dispossessing them of valuables and leaving them traumatized.

The attack, which occurred around 8 p.m., targeted a female-dominated hostel situated outside the school premises.

Witnesses recounted how the assailants, wielding guns and cutlasses, held the students hostage while ransacking their rooms for cash and mobile phones.

One of the victims described the horrifying ordeal, saying, “They threatened to shoot us. Some of us were slapped and hit with guns. It was terrifying. Many of us hid under bunks to escape their wrath.”

Some students expressed fears of further attacks, with many reluctant to sleep in the hostel following the incident.

Confirming the attack, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, Bright Edafe, assured the public that security operatives were on the trail of the suspects.

“Yes, it is confirmed, and efforts are ongoing to arrest the perpetrators,” he stated.
