Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has alleged that her troubles in the Senate began after she rejected sexual advances from Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Speaking in an interview with Arise TV on Friday, Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed she has faced political victimization for refusing to comply with Akpabio’s alleged demands.

“My case is a case of a student being punished by a lecturer for refusing to sleep with him,” she stated.

Her allegations have further intensified controversy around the leadership of the 10th Senate, raising concerns over power dynamics and gender-based harassment within Nigeria’s legislative chambers.

Akpoti-Uduaghan, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been vocal about alleged injustices within the Senate since assuming office in 2023.

Recall that trouble started last week when the female Kogi lawmaker confronted the Senate President over the relocation of her seat at the Senate.

In the heated exchange of words, Akpabio called on the Senate security to walk Akpoti-Uduaghan out of the chambers.

Intervention by other senators, however, saved the day. But the Senate, in a statement by its spokesman, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, berated Akpoti-Uduaghan for standing up to the Senate President, reminding her that the Senate is not for entertainment.
