Two teenage girls in Texas have been arrested for allegedly plotting a “mass casualty attack” involving pipe bombs and firearms at Memorial High School in a Houston suburb.
According to the BBC, the suspects, aged 15 and 16, shared details of their plan on social media, prompting an urgent response from law enforcement.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and its Threat Mitigation Team assisted in the swift arrests.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating: “We are treating this matter with the utmost urgency and commitment, as threats of violence in our schools will not be tolerated.”
One of the girls, a student at Willis High School in Conroe, Texas, is reportedly being held on unrelated charges, while the second suspect, from Spring Branch school district, is in custody in a neighboring county.
Their identities remain undisclosed due to their ages.
The FBI notified the school about the threat, and both students were arrested within 30 minutes.
Memorial High School has since implemented additional security measures to ensure the safety of students and staff.
