Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has signed the Kano State Security Neighborhood Watch Law, 2025, to improve security and fight crime in communities across the state.

The law, which was passed by the Kano State House of Assembly, will create a structured system for community-based security efforts. It will also work alongside law enforcement agencies to boost public safety.

Speaking at the signing ceremony during the 25th Kano State Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Governor Yusuf highlighted the importance of community involvement in tackling crime.

“This law is a significant step towards ensuring the safety of our people,” he said. “Security is not just the responsibility of the government; it requires collaboration between authorities and the public. By formalizing neighbourhood watch structures, we are empowering communities to play a more active role in safeguarding lives and property.”

The governor noted that the new initiative would help reduce crimes such as robbery, drug abuse, and other security threats in the state.

He urged residents to support the initiative by cooperating with security agencies and reporting suspicious activities. “A safer Kano is possible when we all work together,” he added.

Apart from the Neighborhood Watch Law, Governor Yusuf also approved two other laws—the Kano State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (Amendment) Law, 2025, and the Kano State Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Law, 2025.

He reassured Kano residents that his administration is committed to strengthening security and improving their overall well-being.
