The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has dismissed claims that its petrol does not last as long as fuel from the Dangote Refinery, calling it false and misleading.
In a statement on Saturday, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, described the claim as “baseless and entirely unfounded.”
The allegation surfaced in a viral video, where a content creator claimed he bought a litre of Dangote petrol for N925 and another litre from an NNPCL station for N945. He then tested them in different generators, saying the NNPCL fuel lasted only 17 minutes, while the Dangote petrol ran for 33 minutes.
NNPCL, however, dismissed the test, saying it was unverified and lacked professional oversight.
“Our fuel is carefully formulated with one of the best compositions, ensuring efficiency, durability, and environmental sustainability,” the company said.
NNPCL also pointed out that much of the petrol sold at its Lagos filling stations, including the one mentioned in the video, was sourced from the Dangote Refinery.
“This misleading video is another desperate attempt by economic saboteurs to misinform the public and tarnish NNPC Ltd’s reputation,” the statement added.
The company warned that it would take legal action against those spreading false information about its operations.
“We urge the public to disregard such fabricated content and rely on verified sources for accurate information,” NNPCL said, reaffirming its commitment to fuel availability, affordability, and quality.
