Popular Nigerian actress, Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi, has announced a new feat for her lastest film, ‘Alakada: Bad and Boujee’, earned N134 million in seven days at cinemas.

Describing herself as her own competition after her latest film, she shared her excitement on Friday via Instagram after the local distributor announced the film’s box office numbers.

Abraham expressed her gratitude, saying, “God of my journey, thank you. I am grateful that you helped me beat my last record! I am my own competition! Last year, I made N52m after seven days; this year, I made N134M after seven days. That is over a 157.69% increase. God, I am that woman who returns to say thank you.”

The actress also thanked her fans for their support, adding, “To my fans and everyone who has watched ‘Alakada: Bad and Boujee’, thank you. Despite everything, you stood your ground and made me a happy woman. Ẹṣé gan ó. Mo dúpé.”

In her post, Toyin didn’t shy away from addressing challenges within the industry. She praised cinemas that have supported her film and called out others who she feels tried to undermine her success.

“To the cinemas, especially the ones that have made it clear that their goal is for the industry to grow and support every movie irrespective of who is distributing it, thank you. And to those cinemas that made it clear they don’t want us to succeed, God has proven Himself to be greater than man—thank you, Lord,” she added.

Earlier this week, the actress faced backlash from fans after she took to her social media to share her excitement over the film’s three-day box office success using the phrase “without expecting gifts” which many accused her of shading her colleagues.
