In a bid to ensure a safe and secure festive season, the Nigeria Police Force has ramped up security operations across the country, resulting in arrests, raids, and the recovery of weapons.
This development follows the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to bolster security measures during the Christmas season.
Speaking on Tuesday, theForce Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed details of the police’s intensified efforts in a statement.
According to Adejobi, on December 14, 2024, operatives from the Lagos State Police Command conducted successful raids on criminal hideouts in Isolo arresting 43 suspects.
Items recovered during the operation included large quantities of cannabis, daggers, swords, and fetish items, pointing to the targeted dismantling of illicit activities in the area.
Similarly, on December 15, 2024, police operatives in Isheri Osun arrested a suspect, Charles Orji, who attempted to steal a Toyota Hilux vehicle.
Upon his arrest and subsequent search, seven different Toyota car keys were discovered and seized, highlighting the proactive steps to curb car theft during the holiday period.
The police’s heightened vigilance and coordinated operations have extended beyond Lagos to critical areas across the country, including Kaduna, Zamfara, Taraba, Edo, Delta, Benue and Niger States.
These efforts, Adejobi stated, are part of a broader strategy to deter crime and ensure the safety of citizens as the year draws to a close.
“The operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have continued to demonstrate unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property by diligently increasing vigilance and executing coordinated security measures,” Adejobi emphasized.
As the Christmas celebrations approach, the Nigeria Police Force has reassured Nigerians of its commitment to maintaining law and order throughout the festivities.
Adejobi urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activities promptly to security authorities.
“The Force remains unwavering in this mission to provide a safe environment during the holiday season,” Adejobi affirmed.
