The Kano State Fire Service has reported that property worth over N132,450,000 was lost in various fire outbreaks across the state in November 2024.

The agency also confirmed that three lives were lost during the incidents, while four others were rescued.

In a statement, Fire Service spokesman Saminu Abdullahi revealed that the agency responded to 43 fire calls, six false alarms, and five rescue operations across its 29 fire stations in Kano.

“Despite the unfortunate loss of lives and property, our prompt actions saved property valued at over N310 million,” Abdullahi said.

The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Hassan Muhammad, expressed sadness over the incidents but praised the efforts of firefighters in limiting the damages.

“We deeply regret the loss of lives and properties. However, we commend our personnel for their swift response, which helped save significant assets and lives,” he stated.

Muhammad urged residents to take extra precautions during the harmattan season, known for its high risk of fire outbreaks.

“We advise everyone to handle fire and flammable materials carefully during this harmattan period. Motorists should also obey traffic laws and drive cautiously to prevent road accidents,” he added.

The agency further encouraged the public to report emergencies promptly and avoid making false calls, which could hinder their ability to attend to genuine crises.

With the harmattan season intensifying, residents are being urged to adopt fire safety measures to avoid further tragedies.
