The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 130 people in connection with large-scale cybercrimes.
Among the suspects are 113 foreigners, including 87 men and 26 women from China and Malaysia, and 17 Nigerians.
The arrests took place at a building near the Next Cash and Carry area in Jahi, Abuja.
In a statement on Sunday, police spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi shared details of the operation, saying, “The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 130 suspects comprising 113 foreign nationals, primarily from China and Malaysia, along with 17 Nigerians. They are accused of involvement in high-level cybercrimes, hacking, and activities that pose a threat to national security.”
The operation, led by Assistant Inspector-General of Police Benneth Igweh from the Zone 7 Command in Abuja, was conducted in coordination with the National Cyber Crime Centre. Adejobi said the suspects were using computers and other advanced technology to carry out these criminal activities.
Explaining the next steps, Adejobi stated, “We are investigating the matter and scientifically analyzing the exhibits recovered from them. The suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of our investigations. We will update the public on the outcomes of our investigations as and when due.”
