The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Allied Institutions has revealed that the Federal Government has only released one out of four months’ withheld salaries.

This update follows an announcement from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation on Saturday, which stated that it had begun processing withheld payments that prompted a nationwide strike by non-teaching staff on Monday.

SSANU National President Mohammed Ibrahim emphasized that university operations remain disrupted due to the ongoing strike, with 98 percent of members complying and essential university officials, including Vice-Chancellors, bursars, and registrars, also yet to receive total payments.

“We will not return to work until all withheld salaries are paid,” Ibrahim stated, underscoring the unions’ commitment to continue the strike until demands are fully met.

In an interview, Ibrahim confirmed, “Yes, they paid one month out of four months. We shall be meeting to appraise the situation. Not everyone has received it so far.”

The unions plan to review the payment situation and discuss the next steps regarding the strike that has brought university activities across Nigeria to a standstill.
