The President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, on Monday, expressed deep sadness over a tragic accident in Zambia that killed seven players from Chavuma Town Council Football Club.
The accident occurred over the weekend as the team was traveling to a third-tier league game in the northwestern part of Zambia.
The Football Association of Zambia shared their “deep shock” at the news, describing the loss as a huge tragedy for the Zambian football community.
In a statement, Motsepe offered condolences to the families of the deceased players, FAZ, and all Zambians. “It is with profound sadness that I learned of the tragic road accident that claimed the lives and severely injured members of the Chavuma Town Council Football Club who were on their way to a North Western Province Division One League match,” he said.
Motsepe added, “I convey my personal and CAF’s deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased and the Football Association of Zambia. We hope and pray that those who were injured will fully recover soon. May God comfort and console the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased and the Football Association of Zambia.”
CAF and FAZ are now working closely to support the affected families during this difficult time, with many across the continent expressing their sympathy and solidarity with Zambia’s football community.
