The 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke in Jalingo has partnered with the Federal Road Safety Corps to enhance driver training for its personnel.

The brigade’s commander, Maj. Gen. Kingsley Uwa, announced the initiative on Monday at the opening of a two-week Drivers Retraining Course in Jalingo, emphasizing that the program aims to raise professionalism within the Corps of Supply and Transport.

Uwa explained that participants would receive training on essential ethics, practical driving skills, and proper vehicle handling to improve safety, reduce costs, and extend vehicle longevity.

He praised Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba for providing vehicles to support brigade operations in the state and urged trainees to make the most of the skills being offered.

“This action will save costs, lives, and longevity of the vehicles,” Uwa noted.

He also thanked the FRSC for their involvement in the partnership to train brigade drivers.

Governor Agbu Kefas, represented by Secretary to the Government of the State, Timothy Kataps, expressed concern over the recent rise in accidents and damage to service vehicles due to driver negligence.

Kefas highlighted his administration’s efforts to improve transportation resources for security agencies, stating, “My administration has bought and distributed 110 vehicles to security agencies and refurbished 89 service vehicles for state security agencies.”

He added that these steps are aimed at strengthening security and ensuring public safety in Taraba.

Kefas commended the efforts of security personnel, noting a significant reduction in the state’s insecurity rate, dropping from 95% to a single-digit percentage.

“Through the steadfastness of the security, the hitherto insecurity had been reduced… Tarabans can now sleep with their eyes closed,” Kefas remarked.

Lt. Col. Jamilu Lawal, the Chief Instructor, mentioned that the course includes participants from other state security agencies, with eight participants from the Taraba government house and four selected by the Secretary to the Government’s office.

The training underscores a unified approach to improving driving standards and vehicle safety within the state’s security framework.
