The Katsina State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all private health training institutions in the state.
This decision was made on Monday after the State Ministry of Health discovered that many of these institutions were operating without proper registration and did not meet required standards.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Health Institutions, Umar Mammada, announced the closure during a press conference at the Katsina State Secretariat Complex. He explained that the move was necessary to protect public safety, as many of these schools were found to be operating under “questionable standards.”
“Over the past few years, we have witnessed a significant proliferation of private health training institutions, many of which are unregistered or operating under questionable standards,” Mammada stated.
He emphasized that this closure would remain in place until all institutions undergo a fresh registration and evaluation process. The government plans to enforce stricter regulations to ensure that only schools meeting the proper health standards are allowed to operate.
Mammada called on all private health school owners to present their documents for verification on Thursday, October 24, and Friday, October 25, 2024, at the State Ministry of Health. He assured the public that the government is committed to cleaning up the system.
“We want to take this opportunity to implement a more standardized and rigorous regulatory framework for both existing and prospective private health training institutions,” he said.
Mammada urged the operators and citizens to understand the importance of this measure, stating, “It is imperative that all health institutions comply with the laws and regulations that govern the establishment of Private Health Training Institutions in the state.”
