The Federal Government will soon establish a Joint Military Command Centre in the North-West, called ‘Operation Fansan Yamma’, to address the ongoing security challenges in the region.
The announcement was made by Defence Minister Abubakar Badaru during a visit to Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, as part of his working tour of the North-West.
Badaru explained that the new military centre would play a key role in combating banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and other crimes that have plagued the North-West for years. “The president has charged us to be innovative and find lasting solutions to this security problem. We’re working hard to ensure its success,” he said.
The Defence Minister also praised Governor Uba Sani for his support of security agencies in Kaduna, stressing the government’s commitment to solving the country’s security issues. He noted the government’s efforts to collaborate with neighboring countries to address terrorism and arms trafficking.
“We are working closely with the military, security agencies, and neighboring countries to tackle terrorism, banditry, and arms trafficking,” Badaru added. He assured the public that proactive steps were being taken to secure areas like Sokoto and its borders with the Niger Republic. “The collaboration with Niger will help combat the movement of terrorists, arms, and ammunition.”
Governor Uba Sani also highlighted the importance of a strong regional plan to address insecurity. He emphasized the need for better coordination and intelligence gathering to fight banditry and terrorism effectively. “We must establish a Command-and-Control Centre to coordinate our joint efforts against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements in our region,” he stated.
The launch of ‘Operation Fansan Yamma’ is expected to strengthen security measures in the North-West and help restore peace and stability in the affected areas.
