The Kogi State Government has announced a restriction on vehicular movement for Saturday’s Local Government elections.
Movement will be restricted between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. to ensure smooth and secure elections across the state.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, made the announcement on Friday in Lokoja, stating that the restriction is part of measures to guarantee the safety of voters and citizens in the 21 Local Government Areas.
“The decision is also to guarantee the security of voters and citizens across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state,” Fanwo said. He added that security agencies have been directed to enforce the order, and offenders would face consequences.
Fanwo urged citizens to come out in large numbers to vote and assured them that there would be adequate security in place. “We also wish to express confidence in the capacity of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission to organise a free, fair, and credible Council Poll across the state,” he added.
He encouraged citizens to maintain peace and make their voices heard through voting, saying, “It is pertinent to call on the citizens to make democracy a free will of the people and the power of the ballot over the bullets.”
The commissioner reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order for the growth and development of the state.
